"Mama", "Dada" and One More Word

I am a child development nerd. And I'm okay with that. I first described myself as that to a professor and a small group of other students when I was getting my Master's in Early Childhood Education... and it sort of stuck. I remember the professor laughing and agreeing with me but I can't remember if I offended the other MA students or not.

Anyway, I don't make a habit of telling parents things like they need to get a speech referral because 30-month-old Bonnie has only 2 words... but I do know that that's a true statement (three words by 18 mos is what most pediatricians look for).

It was fun to have that knowledge when our Baby started jumping (and landing) at 18 months old. That's really young to get two feet up and off the ground (unless, of course, those two feet are following the heavy head that just tumbled over, in that case it's right on target). And it's a bit soothing to know that repetition (i.e. reading the same annoying lovely book every night) is an important step in development.

So I'm going to start sharing some of my knowledge. I already freaked out parents of late talkers, so that's probably enough for today.
